Entrance bench + storage
It’s always nice to hear from a previous client and this time they were interested in a new bench for their entrance in order to store their array of footwear and outdoor apparel so that it wasn’t seen and kept the dirt and dust isolated from the rest of the hallway.
We decided to build a bespoke unit that tied in with the existing cupboard design and wrap the drawer fronts and side panel with matching plywood slats ensuring the spacing and sizes were all kept uniform so the bench seamlessly fitted into the space.
The bench top lifts on hydraulic struts so that the weight is supported when open and houses a felt-lined shelf for everyday carries like gloves, beanie, bike lights, keys, wallets etc.
The front of the bench features two push-open deep drawers to house up to 4/5 pairs of shoes and boots, below this there is a ‘secret’ toe-kick lower drawer that releases and is used for storing slippers and their Birkenstocks. This toe level push-open drawer is a super handy use of space in an otherwise empty void.
