The Low House

By far the most extensive project we have completed, this was an end-to-end renovation taking an architecturally award-winning property from the 1970’s and bringing it into the 21st Century. Our aim was to retain the key design features that would keep the original architects happy as well as improving on some of their initial ideas, it was a six month built and a joy to work on.

Designing everything from the reimagined floor plan to the kitchen, integrated appliances, bathrooms and living spaces we had to ensure it worked for both the clients as well as retaining the minimalist yet functional aesthetic they prescribed. We adapted Ikea kitchen cabinets and built custom drawer fronts, end-panels as well as a number of bespoke cabinets to tie the seamless flow of Birch plywood throughout the main space.

Included in the project brief was the installation of a new water system, a full rewire of the property, two new bathroom suites, electric underfloor heating throughout, flooring, lighting design, the moving of non-structure walls, installation of a new pocket door as well as overseeing the installation of new windows, bi-folds and exterior cladding + insulation.

Block work

The island unit in the Low House was a special project because it was the centrepiece of the kitchen. We worked with a Welsh company called Smile Plastics to create a feature worktop out of recycled plastic bottles. The client had been wanting to use this material from the start and the island felt like the natural place to showcase it. We also managed to use the off-cuts to make another worktop for the bar area as well as some fun off-cut drinks coasters for the dining table.

Plywood is our favourite material to use because of its versatility and beautiful aesthetic it brings, adding interesting and detailed joints brings further intrigue and style to our bespoke cabinets and furniture.

The lounge in the property divides the main living area and the third bedroom and family bathroom. This section acts as an office space and guest bedroom and bathroom. In order to mask the notion of a corridor through the lounge we hid one of the doors with a slatted wall, this created a cosier lounge space as well as adding warmth and a key design feature to the room.

Along with the conversation about bespoke furniture there was also a requirement to add bespoke features to off-the-shelf furniture in order to tie the interior aesthetic together with the other pieces.

We made feature window sills to replace the existing sills and add further subtle detail to the rooms. Along with these we made bespoke pull handles for Ikea wardrobes and cabinets in a number of the rooms.

Below are some additional photographs from the renovation project including some before and after images. Rooms include the shower room, bathroom, entrance hall, office/training room, lounge and dining areas.
