Skosh

We started working with Neil and the team at Skosh, York about four months before they were ready to open the doors to their recent expansion and renovation project.

We were invited to design and make an adjustable dining table for their new private dining room, suitable to seat as little as six and up to 12 guests. We’ve previously worked with Smile Plastics in Wales and after introducing Neil to the recycled material it immediately rang true to his sustainable ethos of the restaurant.

Along with the large dining table we also made a range of smaller tables with the matching plastic table tops, an array of wooden serving and dining wares as well as turning or hand to a plethora of new sustainable, recycled plastic counter tops and bar bottle plinths.

For the large dining table we made each end from 40mm oak and paired it with an interchangeable section that would adjust the length allowing for more or less diners to be seated. We commissioned bespoke metal legs and had them colour matched to the rest of the new colour scheme that is seen throughout the restaurant.

We used the same company to make circular pedestal legs for the smaller two-seater dining tables that feature the Smile Plastic tops and then we also made square pedestals for the refurbished oak table tops to give them a new lease of life, these bases feature a discrete hook for the diners’ bags and accessories to be stored close-by.

Along with the tables, we were also asked to make a number of worktops from the same recycled plastic, these were numerous shapes and depths featuring various facias, steps and a range of edge detailing. It was delicate to work with though the finished products stand out and offer a light and interesting showcase around the restaurant, creating intrigue and easy to manage surfaces.

Some of the tablewares, whilst being suitable, were not quite as easy to manage as we thought they could be. We redesigned their form, kept them in-keeping with their existing pieces yet added some chamfer and edge detail that not only allowed them to be picked up more easily and moved by the staff though also give the food a plinth to be showcased upon.

This was a fun project to be involved with, it was a pleasure to work with Neil as he is a person that is passionate about the details making it easy to see the mutual vision for the new space.
